EU antitrust extends examination of Unicredit's takeover bid for Banco Bpm to 19 June

The indicative deadline for the European antitrust authority's examination of Unicredit's takeover bid for Banco Bpm, previously set for 4 June, has been extended to 19 June. "The Commission has received a referral request under Article 9 of the EU Merger Regulation on this case," a spokesperson for the EU executive explained in this regard. The Commission is currently assessing whether the conditions for accepting or rejecting the request under' that article are met. "The provisional deadline for the Commission's decision in this case has therefore been extended to 19 June 2025," he says. The reference to Article 9 of the Regulation is to a formal request made by a country for a transaction to be examined in whole or in part by the competent authorities in that country.
