EU-China: Beijing agrees to step up trade talks

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - China and the European Union have agreed to “step up” trade talks, with Beijing promising to facilitate the export of rare earths to Europe, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, which cited a joint statement.

“The two sides reaffirmed the need to strengthen dialogue (...) on export controls,” the text states. It also adds that Beijing is “willing” to “continue to facilitate the examination and approval of export licences for rare earths and permanent magnets to Europe”. The talks, which concluded today, were led on the European side by EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen the ‘stability’ of supply chains.
