There is progress on the EU-US joint statement after last weeks' agreement on tariffs. This was confirmed by EU trade spokesman Olof Gill: 'I am pleased to confirm that we have received a message from the US with their suggestions to, let's say, get closer to finalising the document. So now we will examine it. We will engage both technically and politically with our American counterparts'.
Progress on the politically agreed understanding between Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland on 27 July towards a legally binding text has been expected for days. "We will now invest our high-level expertise in conveying our final views to the United States, and then it will be their turn again to finalise it. I know it is boring for all of you to repeat that we are close, but this is the factual analysis of the matter. We are close, we just need to make these final adjustments,' Gil added.
