Everything is ready for the European Football Championship, which will start with the hope (of all Italian fans) of repeating the sporting result of the national team as European champions in 2021 and with the hope (of Sky and RAI, with their dowry of TV rights for the competition) of seeing an upward curve in ratings on TV.

'World Cup and European Championships,' comments Francesco Siliato, media analyst at Studio Frasi, 'capture audiences that are also non-TV. In addition to the passion for football, curiosity and cheering for the national team grow, and the TV total in the summer is usually quite low. In the last six weeks, TV has already lost 2.2 million viewers in prime time. Viewers that it expects to regain all of them and even more in the month of Euro 2024'.

Sky is presenting its strong offer of all 51 championship matches. Rai also trusts in very high ratings, as it will broadcast 31 matches, four more than in the previous European Championships, including all those played by our national team. Both Sky and Rai will have a network version with Now and RaiPlay and the possibility of on demand. All matches will also be on Sky 4k and the 31 Rai matches on the Rai 4k channel also broadcast on TivùSat.

The average number of matches played last European Championship was 7.5 million for the public service and 753,000 for Sky, with the matches played by Italy followed by 1.7 million on Sky and 14.2 million on Rai. The peak was for the final won on penalties against England followed by 18.2 million in free mode and 2.4 million Sky subscribers for an overall share of 83.6 per cent. .

A unique event for a football match was then the female attendance that exceeded nine million (9,083,474) spectators. The whole of Italy came together to follow the final to the point that the social cohesion index elaborated by Studio Frasi, taking into account the harmonisation of the composition by gender, age, economic condition, territories between the television audience and the Italian population, was 93.9%..

The goals and aspirations for the ratings are to repeat the performance of Euro 2020; the possibility of achieving them will be seen immediately. 'In 2021,' points out Siliato, 'the first match of the national team, Italy-Turkey, was followed by 1.6 million Sky subscribers, 64 thousand on SkyGo and 12.7 on the free version of Rai1. Tomorrow, Saturday 14 June 2024, Italy-Albania will be played.
