Eurogroup: Giorgetti says there is widespread support for Italy’s proposal on flexibility
"Confident that the rules will be interpreted correctly"
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - “We have asked the Commission to give further consideration to the matter with a view to ensuring a correct interpretation of the factors relevant to compliance with the current Stability Pact. We are confident that sound technical arguments, with the necessary analysis and appropriate procedures, will lead to a correct interpretation of the rules, including within the energy clause already approved, through decisions consistent with the sustainability of public finances”. So said the Minister for the Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, at the conclusion of the Eurogroup meeting, during which there was an extensive debate “on the negative impact on public finances caused by inflation, which has far exceeded forecasts”. According to Giorgetti, “the Italian proposal presented today by the Minister for the Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, received widespread support, apart from the usual reservations expressed by the ‘frugal’ countries”.
