In Italy, the European elections will take place on 8 and 9 June 2024. To vote, one must be at least 18 years old. Polling stations will be open from 3pm to 11pm on Saturday 8 June and from 7am to 11pm on Sunday. Voting is by means of a proportional electoral system and a 4% barrier. In addition to voting for the list, it is possible, but not compulsory, to express up to three preferences.
In the case of several preferences, however, these must concern candidates of different sexes. Voters, however, also have the option of indicating no preference, in which case the vote will only go to the list.
The Sole 24 Ore summarised the positions of the main parties in the race (which are above or around the 4% threshold in the polls) in six decisive points of their respective programmes: political governance (with the possible reform of the European institutions); economic governance (with new rules for the budget).
And then: defence policies and military cooperation (with a look at the geopolitical framework, starting with Ukraine and the Middle East); industrial policy (competitiveness, energy and the environment); labour (with a focus on wages, the tax wedge, contracts and pensions); migrants (which rules for entry into Europe and border control).
