See you in Milan for the eleventh edition of JazzMi
In Paris, the musical “La Cage aux folles”; in Riese Pio X, cellist Mario Brunello
In Milan, the 11th edition of JazzMi is taking place, with the spirit of jazz sweeping through many of the city’s venues and spaces in a truly electrifying way. In Paris, the musical ‘La Cage aux folles’ – reminiscent of the film ‘Il vizietto’ starring Tognazzi and Serrault – is back on stage after its huge success a year ago; this gives us the chance to discover the recently opened La Seine Musicale theatre on Île Seguin. A complete change of atmosphere at the Antiruggine in Riese Pio X, where a single musician takes centre stage.
Milan
From 19 October to 8 November, the 11th edition of JazzMi takes place. Alongside events dedicated to the history and evolution of jazz, the festival also celebrates the centenary of the births of two key figures, Miles Davis and John Coltrane; a programme featuring concerts, productions, books, exhibitions and talks is dedicated to them. From its two main venues – the Triennale Milano and Blue Note Milano – the festival once again spans the city in all its diversity, bringing together major theatres, cultural venues, spaces dedicated to design and architecture, clubs and independent venues. These include the Teatro Nazionale, the Teatro degli Arcimboldi, the Dal Verme and the Lirico. The festival also renews its dialogue with cultural institutions and venues such as the Milan Conservatoire and the Auditorium S. Fedele, as well as with some of the city’s most dynamic venues: Armani/Silos, the Liberty Amphitheatre, the ADI Design Museum, Combo Milano and Cascina Nascosta. Among the new additions to this year’s edition is the IULM Auditorium. JazzMi also maintains its connection with the venues that have helped shape its identity over the years and with that nightlife scene that has become an integral part of the festival: Alcatraz Milano, Santeria Toscana 31, BIKO Milano and BASE Milano are just some of the venues that continue to fuel the festival’s freest, most vibrant and unpredictable side. Among the jazz artists, to name but a few, are Gregory Porter, Ibrahim Maalouf, Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Frisell, Paolo Fresu, Sergio Cammariere, Richard Bona, Calibro 35, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Rokia Traoré, Nate Smith and Isaiah Collier.
Riese Pio X (TV)
On the 20th at 10.00 pm, we’re off to the Antiruggine to hear cellist Mario Brunello explain why the number 6 was dear to Bach, whilst we wait for midnight with a cake to celebrate (it’s a surprise).
