Foreign exchange: the pound falls slightly against the dollar following Prime Minister Starmer’s resignation
The London Stock Exchange was largely unchanged, trading at the previous day’s levels
The news of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation is not causing any major turmoil in the markets, partly because it was expected. The London Stock Exchange (-0.04%) continues to fluctuate around Friday’s levels. The pound has fallen slightly, trading at 1.3194 dollars, down 0.29%. However, the euro-sterling exchange rate stands at 0.8675, fairly stable compared with this morning’s level of 0.8673 (+0.08%).

Yields on ten-year bonds have also seen little change, standing at 4.858 per cent, a very slight rise of 0.011 per cent.
