Exports to Germany surged in June. The cruise ship “Mein Schiff Flow” is leading the way. Here are its features

A surge in exports driven by the shipbuilding industry. In the overall context which, according to Istat data, saw exports reach 59.8 billion euros in June 2026, recording growth compared with June 2025 both in value (+9.8 per cent) and in volume (+5.1 per cent), one figure stands out as particularly positive: exports to Germany (+22.9 per cent). This result is partly attributable to Fincantieri’s delivery of a large cruise ship, the ‘Mein Schiff Flow’. Even excluding this order, however, exports to Germany in June 2026 would still be up by 5.4 per cent compared with June 2025.
The features of the cruise ship
The “Mein Schiff Flow” was delivered on 12 June at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone (Gorizia). It is the second of two newly designed dual-fuel (liquefied natural gas and marine gas oil) InTUItion-class cruise ships built by Fincantieri for TUI Cruises. With a gross tonnage of approximately 160,000 tonnes and a capacity of around 4,000 passengers, ‘Mein Schiff Flow’ is based on a new-generation design developed by Fincantieri to combine innovation and sustainability, prioritising energy efficiency with the aim of reducing operational fuel consumption and minimising environmental impact. Designed to use LNG propulsion, the ship is also equipped to utilise low-emission alternative fuels, such as bio-LNG or e-LNG. The vessel will be fitted with catalytic converters and a steam turbine that utilises the waste heat from the diesel generators, as well as a shore power connection system. On board, there is a waste treatment system designed to convert organic matter into recyclable materials through a thermal process.
