The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, on the instructions of Minister Adolfo Urso, has called an update meeting with trade unions regarding the situation of the Fabriano (Ancona) company, part of the Fedrigoni group. The meeting has been set for Monday, 4 November, at 5 p.m. It will be an "in-depth" meeting, as explained by the ministry in a note, following the company's crisis and the mobilisation of the trade unions.

The situation precipitated in recent weeks. The sector's workers' union had decisively rejected the company's announcement to start the dismissal procedure for 195 employees, engaged in the production of office paper, but also in the areas of maintenance, materials management and shipments at the Fabriano plant, and which in fact implies the closure of the nearby Rocchetta site. "The meeting with minister Adolfo Urso," comments Giulia Guida of Slc's national secretariat, "should avert the devastating impact on the lives of the workers involved, on their families and on the local community and allied industries that the company measure would have if implemented.

A strike was called after the announcement. 'Slc will oppose with all possible means,' Giulia Guida added in conclusion, 'the liquidation of the Giano company, since the total closure of the Rocchetta plant and partial closure of the Fabriano plant represents a real threat to jobs and the future of the group. Now the Ministry enters the scene, to assess the possibility of reducing the impact on the employees' families.
