One word is enough to introduce Gianluigi Buffon: legend. After all, we are talking about one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of football, a collector of unforgettable victories and a reference point for many generations of fans. Buffon stopped playing in 2023, after 28 years at the highest level in which he played 1175 matches between club, major national team and youth national team. Today he is the head of delegation of the Italian national team and, since last April, he has also become an ambassador, business partner and shareholder of the young Swiss watch brand Norqain, founded in 2018 and specialising in high-performance sports models.
Given the incredible saves you have made in your career, how important has timing been for you? I think that's what makes the difference between great champions and good players: having the ability to understand in time how a situation on the pitch might develop and prepare for it. But few people know this. I made so many saves in my career not because I was physically stronger, but because my timing was perfect. I think that was one of the fundamental reasons for my success. And I trained it, because I realised that I could improve on a base that, in my case, Mother Nature had already given me.
Your father was a shot putter and your mother a thrower of both shot put and discus: did you know that sport would also be your path? Not as a boy. Today, looking at everything with the eyes of an adult and someone who has travelled a certain path, I can tell you that I probably didn't even imagine it, because I felt it was natural. I grew up in a family where I saw my father in a tracksuit five days a week. These are aspects that, for better or worse, imprint you.
Did you want to be a goalkeeper? I don't know. What I do know is that since I was a child I always dreamed of being a footballer.
