Clashes in Bologna: Meloni calls violence against the police ‘unacceptable’

“What happened in Bologna is unacceptable. Regarding the death of Abderrahim Fakir , it is imperative that any liability be investigated with the utmost rigour. The truth must be pursued to the very end, without prejudice and without making exceptions for anyone. But nothing can justify violence against the police.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has taken to social media to comment on the incidents of violence in Bologna during the demonstration over the death of Abderrahim Fakir.

“Those who chose to use this incident as a pretext to lay waste to the city, attack police officers and sow violence – thereby also putting at risk the safety of citizens who had absolutely nothing to do with the unrest,” the Prime Minister continued, “were not seeking the truth: they were seeking confrontation.” She added: “Fomenting a climate of hatred and undermining the legitimacy of an entire state institution is a grave act of irresponsibility,” Meloni added. “Turning thousands of men and women in uniform into targets means striking at those who serve Italia every day with professionalism, sacrifice and courage.”
