Farewell to Andrea de Adamich, former F1 driver and commentator
For his merits, he was appointed Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on 2 June 2022.
Mourning in the world of motor racing: Andrea de Adamich died in Milan at the age of 84. Born in Trieste in 1941, a former Formula 1 driver and then commentator after bidding farewell to racing, he became Formula 3 champion in 1965. The following year with Alfa Romeo he became European Touring Car Champion in '66 and '67. He arrived in Formula 1 in 1968, racing for Ferrari, McLaren, March, Surtees and Brabham.
His career ended in 1973 at Silverstone: a spin by Jody Scheckter at the start caused an accident involving 10 single-seaters. De Adamich is stuck for about an hour in his Brabham: he fractures both legs.
He continued his career with participation in the great classics with sports cars.
In the 1980s his second sporting life: De Adamich gained new popularity as a commentator and commentator. His was the presenter of Grand Prix on early private TV and then the voice of the GPs on Mediaset.
In 1991, he founded the International Safe Driving Centre, continuing his historic collaboration with Alfa Romeo. For his merits, he was appointed Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on 2 June 2022.
