Silvia Monti, a former actress and the wife of businessman Carlo De Benedetti, has died at the age of 80 following an illness.
Silvia Cornacchia was born on 23 January 1946 in Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza (and not in Venice, as some biographies state); she was a well-known figure in Italian cinema between the late 1960s and the first half of the 1970s.
She chose to retire from the limelight whilst her career was still in full swing. Over the course of a few years, she worked with directors such as Alberto Lattuada, Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, Gérard Oury, Lucio Fulci, Luigi Bazzoni and Alberto Sordi. After leaving the film industry, she married the Venetian count Luigi Donà dalle Rose, with whom she had two children, Leonardo and Una. The couple separated in 1994.
On 10 July 1997, the former actress went on to marry the entrepreneur Carlo De Benedetti in her second marriage, and moved with him to Lugano, in Switzerland, where she has lived for the past few years.
Silvia Monti made her big-screen debut in 1969 with a small role in Alberto Lattuada’s *Fräulein Doktor*. In the same year, she appeared in Giuseppe Patroni Griffi’s *Metti, una sera a cena*, Gérard Oury’s *Il cervello* and Maurizio Liverani’s *Sai cosa faceva Stalin alle donne?*.
