The Senate Justice Committee unanimously approved the text introducing the crime of feminicide. The announcement came from the president of the Justice Committee and Lega Lega senator Giulia Bongiorno. "It is a breakthrough in law that also marks a qualitative leap in the fight against violence against women. Acknowledging that feminicide is the result of discrimination means correctly framing the phenomenon,' stresses President Bongiorno. "I express my satisfaction as president of the Commission for the OK on a text that also represents a battle of the League, which we have been carrying on for a long time".

What the new article in the penal code provides for

The text introduces into the penal code a new Article 577-bis concerning the crime of feminicide. A specific case of homicide is introduced, which punishes with life imprisonment anyone who causes the death of a woman, committing the act with acts of discrimination or hatred towards the victim as a woman, or if the offence is aimed at repressing the exercise of a woman's rights, freedoms or personality.

Enhanced Electronic Bracelet

.

Training obligations for magistrates on combating violence and preventing secondary victimisation are strengthened, more protection for orphans of feminicide, even if they are not in stable cohabitation. There is a no-stop after 45 days for wiretapping in cases of feminicide and other crimes of violence against women. The enhanced electronic bracelet also arrives (it is activated at 1 km instead of 500 m).

Yes to the amendment against rape drugs

The Senate Justice Committee also gave the green light to the League's amendment to combat rape drugs. "It will be easier to identify the victim's intake of psychotropic substances, which are now various and highly diffused, and to prove the administration in order to use it as evidence in court, establishing the violence. This will be possible through the establishment of a Technical Table at the Ministry of Health to develop sampling methodologies, the identification of laboratories, and the storage of samples, providing uniform protocols throughout the country. Awareness-raising campaigns are then promoted in the regions on the dangers of drugs that facilitate sexual violence. The objective of the League, which had already presented a motion on the subject, is to put an end to these new forms of violence, which are often invisible,' commented Lega Senators Stefania Pucciarelli and Erika Stefani.

Pd, good unanimity with major improvements

The approval in the Commission "is an important step forward in the fight against male violence against women", say the PD senators Alfredo Bazoli, Anna Rossomando, Walter Verini, Franco Mirabelli, Valeria Valente, Filippo Sensi, Cecilia D'Elia. A unanimous vote, they emphasise, a unanimous vote 'achieved thanks to the improvements we managed to obtain during the examination in the Commission, also in the direction desired by many of those heard, from the anti-violence networks, to magistrates, lawyers, women's and feminist associations. On these issues, for us, sharing is a value, as demonstrated by the work done in recent years'. Now the real battle 'is to put in place a great commitment on prevention and affective education. Now with the same sharing we are working for more interventions and investments'.

Conte, skips 45-day cut-off for investigation

"We have achieved an important result: we have blown up the absurd 45-day limit on wiretapping to investigate cases of violence against women. Thanks to our Ada Lopreiato, the amendment was approved in the Senate Commission that cancels this absurd cut-off, which should not even exist for other crimes. We had already tried to exclude at least Code Red offences from this absurd limit, but we were told no. We have tried several times and now we have finally succeeded. We will keep our guard up,' M5s leader Giuseppe Conte wrote on social media.
