Ferrari, time for the reveal. The wait for the unveiling of the new SF-24 is over. The single-seater with which the Maranello team will tackle the upcoming 2024 Formula 1 season was unveiled with a social event, in a very dry format, starting at 12 noon. The event was broadcast on the Rossa's website and also on the YouTube channel. The countdown was launched on the X profile, with some short videos, one of which showed the numbers of the two single-seaters (55 and 16) partly revealing the colour point of the new cars. Six days ago, on 6 February, the power unit on the new car was assembled and switched on for the first time. The official track debut will be for the Bahrain Grand Prix on 2 March.
First impressions and the audience at the presentation
We come to the new car. Philosophy maintained with a few changes, but no changes from last season: shorter nose, push rod suspension for high road-holding and, however, a different wing, much closer to that of the Red Bulls. The SF-24 was unveiled 'physically' at Fiorano, in the presence of a small number of guests, albeit with an online connection to the rest of the world. Among those present were president John Elkann, ceo Benedetto Vigna and vice-president Piero Ferrari, as well as team principal Fred Vasseur and drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. On the road near the circuit a small crowd.
The SF-24 is the third car of the new ground-effect generation introduced two years ago by Formula 1, but it also sees a discontinuity in its shape. White has been reintroduced after the success last year of the special bodywork seen in Las Vegas, while yellow has always been Ferrari's second colour, but the longitudinal stripes have been missing from the livery since 1968 and had never been paired with white. The shade of red is Racing Red 2024, matt. Black is limited to the car's underbody, front bulkheads, part of the halo and other details.
Even the rims are red with a double white and yellow stripe, colours that also characterise the race numbers - 16 and 55 - which continue to be in Ferrari Sans, the official Maranello company font, but now in italics. Between today and tomorrow, the SF-24 will complete its first kilometres to allow the collection of images and photographs for marketing and communication purposes, but this will also give the team a chance to shakedown the car and allow the drivers, after testing it in the simulator over the last few weeks, to get a first idea of how the single-seater behaves on the track.
Vasseur: it will be the toughest championship
