Ferries: here are the routes where ticket prices have risen the most

Prices have not yet reached summer levels, when tourist traffic is at its peak, but figures for May and June show that average ferry ticket prices in Italia have risen by 7.4% (€37.75) compared with the same period last year. However, this increase is the result of significant differences between regions and individual routes: Sardinia is the region that recorded the largest increase (+18.2% to €46.45). As for individual routes, Piombino–Porto Ferraio recorded the most significant increase (+17.7%), whilst the Livorno–Olbia route saw the sharpest fall (-19.4%).

These are the figures revealed in the first “Ferryhopper Ticket Price Index for Italia” report, which tracks the average prices of economy-class tickets for adult passengers on ferry routes across four European markets: the change in Italia is lower than that recorded in Spain (+12.4%), Malta (+12%) and Croatia (+16.1%).

Whilst Sardinia stood out in Italia as the region recording the largest increase (+18.2% year-on-year), it is worth noting that the neighbouring Corsica saw a corresponding decline of -18.5%. Eastern Italia is the area where the average ticket price remains highest: €86.76 (+2.3% compared with 2025).

According to data from the Ferryhopper platform, which brings together over 190 ferry operators across more than 33 countries, price changes on Italia’s busiest ferry routes were moderate in the second quarter of 2026. The Beverello (Naples)–Sorrento route recorded the largest year-on-year increase in average ticket prices (+10.8 per cent), followed by the Beverello (Naples)–Positano (+6.8%) and Bastia–Livorno (+6.2%).

One route that has seen a decline is the Livorno–Olbia route, which recorded a fall of 19.4%. The Naples–Palermo route saw a decline of 8.2%. The Beverello (Naples)–Capri and Amalfi–Positano routes remained unchanged.
