Who is Roberto Fico, the new president of Campania
From the foundation of the first meetup in Naples to the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, Fico is preparing to lead Campania between environmental battles and local political challenges

"A 'Grillino' of the first hour, historical exponent of the wing of the Five Star Movement closest to left-wing political positions, Roberto Fico is the new president of the Campania Region. Born in Naples in 1974, a classical high school diploma and a degree with 110 cum laude in Communication Sciences from Trieste with a thesis on mass communication, Fico approached politics in 2005.
The beginnings with the meetup "Friends of Beppe Grillo"
In that year he founded the meetup 'Amici di Beppe Grillo' organised in a pub in Mergellina. These were years of battles on the issues of public water, on which anti-discharge and environmental protection committees were set up. His first political success is the withdrawal of a resolution of the Ambito territoriale to privatise water. In 2009, the M5s was born and Fico was immediately in the front line. In 2010 he ran for president of the region and the following year for mayor of Naples, obtaining less than 2 per cent of the vote in both cases.
The election in Parliament
Elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013, he became chairman of the RAI Supervisory Committee at only 38 years of age and put the golden salaries in the public TV in his crosshairs.
President of the House
In the following legislature, when the Cinquestelle obtained their highest ever vote, he became president of the Chamber: it is March 2018, he is 43 years old: to give a sign of novelty he goes to Montecitorio on a public bus instead of in a blue car. During that term Fico finds himself working in the bureau with Edmondo Cirielli of Fratelli d'Italia, elected quaestor of the Chamber and now his direct opponent for the leadership of Campania.
The Exploratory Mandate
When the Conte bis government collapsed in 2021, Mattarella entrusted Fico with an exploratory mandate, which, however, made it impossible to reconstitute the same majority. At the following elections, he does not stand as a candidate, respecting the two-term rule. But he continued to assiduously play politics in the Campania region, until the official announcement that he would run for the region. And to the controversy over his gozzo moored in the past at the Nisida military port) and the condoned family home at Circeo.
