FIFA sacks chief operating officer Lamour: he had criticised Infantino

Kevin Lamour, FIFA’s chief operating officer, has been sacked by the world football governing body. In recent weeks, the French executive had publicly criticised President Gianni Infantino’s plan to sell a 20 per cent stake in the World Cup to private investors, claiming he had been “misled” by him. FIFA Council members were informed that “the decision was taken after careful consideration and with great respect for Kevin”.
Lamour, aged 45, had accused the organisation’s leadership of having “misled” staff regarding the management of the project and had described the initiative as “a one-man project”. Lamour, a long-standing associate of Infantino and a member of the group that backed his bid for the FIFA presidency in 2016, had joined the organisation in November 2024.
