Italian Financial Police, Giorgetti: 20 billion in fraud relating to building grants
In addition to the 10 billion seized by the Fiamme Gialle, a further 10 billion has come to light following preventive checks. The minister: economic security is a matter of national importance
Celebrations marking the 252nd anniversary of the founding of the Guardia di Finanza are taking place at the Campi Diomedei in Foggia, with this year’s event being held in the provincial capital of the Daunia region as the national venue for the occasion.
Institutional representatives
The ceremony is attended by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary Antonio Tajani, Minister for the Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti and Minister for Culture Alessandro Giuli. Also in attendance are the Commander-General of the Guardia di Finanza, Andrea De Gennaro, along with deputy ministers, undersecretaries and leading civil, military and religious authorities.
For several days now, Foggia has been at the heart of the initiatives organised by the Guardia di Finanza. From 20 to 22 June, the Villa Comunale hosted the Guardia di Finanza Village, a space open to the public dedicated to raising awareness of the Corps’ operational activities, featuring an exhibition of vehicles, technologies and specialist units deployed across various areas of operation.
For security reasons, the area adjacent to the Campi Diomedei is reserved for invited guests and authorised personnel. The event programme includes, amongst other things, the traditional awards ceremony for members of the Finance Police who have distinguished themselves through acts of heroism and operations of particular significance.
The choice of Foggia as the venue for the national celebrations marking the 252nd anniversary holds symbolic significance, linked to the presence of the State and its institutions in a region that is particularly committed to combating economic and organised crime.
