The Turin Police Headquarters has placed the Torre Rossa in Sestriere under preventive seizure for irregularities related to security. The 3-star hotel, managed by the Aurum Hotels chain, is one of the historical symbols of the famous ski resort. A notice was posted at the entrance of the hotel for guests, indicating that they would be transferred to the nearby Dukes of Aosta White Tower. The fire brigade was also on site during the checks. Informed sources have reportedly revealed that the fire-fighting systems did not comply with regulations.
Direct access to the ski slopes
The building, which is located in Piazza Agnelli, was built in the early 1930s on a commission from the founder of Fiat, Senator Giovanni Agnelli. It was designed by engineer Vittorio Bonadè Bottino. There are eighty rooms and guests are offered direct access to the ski slopes. 'The reception is temporarily closed, for check-ins please go to the Torre Bianca (Dukes of Aosta)', so reads a sheet placed underneath that of the Police Headquarters which states: 'Premises subject to seizure'.
