Having successfully completed the start-up phase, Veneto's first plant dedicated to the treatment and recovery of road and beach sweeping waste is now officially operational. It is located in Fusina - where an entire recycling eco-district operates - and is able to separate and return clean and certified sand to the beaches of origin, free of organic, microplastic and anthropogenic waste.

The project

The project commissioned by RIVE Srl (Veritas Group), an environmental platform oriented towards the circular economy, was realised with Bergamo-based Gruppo Esposito technology, a pioneer in Europe in innovation in the environmental sector, which thus adds a new piece to its national network of infrastructures for the circular economy. The initiative is part of a strategic context for waste management in the Veneto region, contributing to the reduction of landfills and the achievement of European environmental objectives.

The site represents a response to the need for more sustainable waste management in a strategic context such as the Venetian Lagoon, characterised by high industrialisation and environmental pressure. The Fusina plant stands out not only for its operational capacity, but also for the adoption of the most modern technologies in waste treatment and recovery, with a treatment capacity of 70,000 tonnes of waste per year, which are transformed into useful resources, such as sand and gravel, to be reused in construction or for environmental restoration, contributing significantly to the achievement of sustainability and circular economy objectives at regional and national level. It is also a way to help protect the coastal heritage and combat erosion, an increasingly topical phenomenon along the Italian coasts.

Industries and Tourism

"Veneto is one of the Italian regions with the highest rate of industrialisation and tourist presence. This entails a significant production of waste, both urban and from road and coastal cleaning activities. - emphasises Ezio Esposito, founder of the Group of the same name -. Having a plant today that is able to valorise these flows directly in the territory represents a fundamental change of step: transport is reduced, supply chains are shortened, and environmental costs are lowered. But above all, it offers the Veneto system a concrete solution that is environmentally sustainable and aligned with the principles of the circular economy. The objective has been to guarantee reliable, high-performance processes: "The collaboration with RIVE Srl has made it possible to integrate complementary skills and visions, systemising a virtuous industrial model at the service of the community in a region that has always been a reference point for waste recovery and reuse," concludes Esposito.

L’ecodistretto

The Fusina site is part of a network that today has 12 active plants in Italy and a total treatment capacity of 450,000 tonnes per year. A constantly expanding network that confirms the Esposito Group's central role in promoting a culture of material recovery and in the implementation of concrete circular economy models.

In this area, Veritas, the multiservice company owned by the 44 municipalities of the Venice metropolitan area (plus Mogliano Veneto) has developed the Ecodistretto, where other controlled companies develop innovative environmental technologies: among them, a joint venture that will build a plant for the disposal of obsolete photovoltaic panels.
