First day at school with vodka, 15-year-old girl in hospital. Maybe a social challenge

A stunt between classmates to test each other's ability to resist alcohol. And probably a 'challenge' to post on social networks. However, the first day at school of a 15-year-old girl in her second year at a high school in Salento ended in hospital. She and some of her classmates went to class sharing a bottle of vodka in flasks that usually contain water and sipping it during class time. They did this until the girl felt ill, started vomiting in class and was then taken to the bathroom where she collapsed.

The school staff then called the 118 emergency services and the student was immediately taken to the nearby hospital where she underwent tests and treatment to get rid of the large amount of alcohol she had consumed. Fortunately, after a day's hospitalisation she was discharged without serious consequences, but the matter will obviously have to be investigated further in order to find out, first of all, who sold alcohol to minors or whether the vodka had been stolen from the house by someone. The public prosecutor's office for minors in Lecce is dealing with the matter and has opened a file, while the school is doing its own checks to understand how things happened.

The head teacher listened to the girl's classmates. It emerged that the 15-year-old girl had bought the bottle of vodka from a market near the school she attended. With her were two other classmates who, however, did not suffer any ill effects from drinking the liquor. All three were reportedly taking part in a social challenge to be filmed on their mobile phones. It was the two classmates of the 15-year-old girl involved in the stunt who revealed this. The boys also allegedly confessed that they had chosen vodka because it was colourless, so as not to be discovered. The school management arranged for mentoring for the students involved to help them understand the physical and social consequences of drinking alcohol so early. They also arranged for a series of social activities in the school and personal development together with classmates with regard to alcohol addiction.
