Wizz Air Holdings Plc, reports Bloomberg news agency, is considering releasing another batch of annual passes for unlimited flights after the first 10,000 sold out in 48 hours. The Hungarian carrier is "still considering the option of launching another series" of its All You Can Fly 499 euro ($556) passes, a spokesman said. The offer, announced on 13 August, brought €5 million into the airline's coffers during a disappointing summer.
Promotion is a strong point for Wizz, which this month cut its annual profit forecast due to engine problems that grounded some of its Airbus SE A321 aircraft. Other airlines in Europe also cut their profit forecasts due to the significant drop in airfares this summer.
The 12-month plan has some limitations, including the possibility of booking flights only three days before departure and a mandatory booking fee of EUR 10 per booked flight. Baggage and seat selection are not included in the subscription.
Michael O'Leary, chief executive of big rival Ryanair Holdings Plc, described Wizz's offer as a 'marketing scam' in an interview with Newstalk, saying that there would be no seats available on planes if customers could only book three days before their flight.
Yvonne Moynihan, Wizz's Chief Corporate and ESG Officer, said in a separate Newstalk programme that O'Leary's comments were 'not only provocative, but also inaccurate'.
