The bad weather from the north west is moving to the north east. Weather alert from next night in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Emilia Romagna for thunderstorms and strong winds. Based on the available forecasts, the civil protection department in agreement with the regions involved - which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned - has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. From the early hours of Monday, rainfall, in the form of showers or thunderstorms, is therefore expected in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, and in the afternoon also in Emilia-Romagna. The phenomena will be accompanied by local hail and strong gusts of wind. For the three regions the alert is yellow.
The damage count begins. Massimo Chatrian, deputy mayor of Valtournenche, where last night a cloudburst hit especially the streets in the centre of Cervinia, explains that in the holiday resort "the damage is huge, we are talking about millions and millions of euro, because all the shops have warehouses that are below street level, so the Marmore torrent overflowed and filled garages, garages, and even several rooms. Now the situation is pretty much under control,' Chatrian continues, 'the torrent banks and the streets in the centre are being cleaned up. An inspection is being carried out to check the situation of the aqueducts, because they have suffered damage'.
On Saturday, the wave of bad weather caused flooding in Valle d'Aosta and Piemonte. And the new week still promises to be under the sign of strong weather instability with several thunderstorms, downpours and local hailstorms, especially in the northern regions.
There are at least two confirmed dead and one missing in the Ticino canton, while in France there are also three fatalities, victims of a falling tree caused by strong winds.
Difficult situation in Cogne, which remains isolated: the only road to the village, the regional road 47 closed from Ozein, was heavily damaged in several places. Three hundred people were evacuated from the valley by helicopter (200 from Valnontey and 100 from Cogne). They are 'residents and tourists: a hundred from Valnontey and the same number from Cogne,' said the president of the Valle d'Aosta Region, Renzo Testolin who explained: 'To restore the viability, I want to be optimistic, it will take weeks.
