Czech Republic businessman Daniel Kretinsky, owner of the utility Eph (Energetický a Průmyslový Holding), has launched a takeover bid for French multinational retailer Fnac Darty, at a price of around EUR 36 per share. The transalpine company announced this in a statement.
"The board of directors of Fnac Darty unanimously welcomed the offer," announced the group, in which Daniel Kretinsky is already the main shareholder with a 28.5 per cent stake through his investment vehicle Vesa.
Kretinsky's Eph Group values the French company at EUR1.1 billion (USD1.3 billion), adding that the proposal - in cash for shares and convertible bonds - offers a premium of 19% over Fnac's last closing price on Friday 23 January 2026 of EUR30.25 (USD35.87) per share, and had the backing of the board of directors.
"With this friendly offer, welcomed by the board of directors, we want to consolidate our commitmentby becoming long-term majority shareholders," Kretinsky said in a note.
'We are committed to supporting the current management team led by Enrique Martinez and ensuring the company's French presence, while offering an attractive cash opportunity to shareholders,' he added.
