Accounts were essentially stable for Coop Italia, which closed 2024 with total sales of EUR 16.6 billion, up 1.2% on the previous year, of which more than EUR 14.9 billion (+1%) came from retail business. The market share of the Coop system stood at 11.1%, a loss of three-tenths of a point over the previous year. This confirms Coop's position among the top three large-scale retail chains in Italy. Coop Italia completed its new range of private label products in 2024, which was enriched with further proposals including a new offer in the pet food segment, enabling it to compete on an equal footing with the large chains specialising in pet products. More than a thousand products underwent restyling, including room hygiene, cold meats and cheeses. The share of Mdd products in total sales exceeded 40% and by the end of 2024 the turnover generated by Coop-branded products reached EUR 3.5 billion.
Of particular note is the success of the new "Gli spesotti" line, which came on stream in 2024 and which, thanks to an offer characterised by great convenience, without giving up Coop guarantees, has developed considerable numbers in one year: almost 10 million items sold each month and 4 million purchasers in one year among Coop members, 1 in 4. Coop Voce, the Coop-branded telephony service, performed brilliantly, with over 2.2 million users in 2024 (413,000 new users in 2024) and a turnover of around 157 million euros (+3% compared with 2023).
Membership is confirmed at 6.2 million, practically more than a quarter of Italian households 'own' a share of the 72 member cooperatives. The workforce numbers just under 58,000 employees and the percentage of women in management roles exceeds 40%. From an employment point of view, 2024 marked the renewal of the employment contract in cooperative distribution at the end of a long and complex negotiation that led to salary adjustments and an increase in welfare clauses and resources invested in training courses. More than 70% of Coop employees are women, and at the same time the percentage of women in management roles has increased. This figure has been growing for years and bears witness to Coop's commitment to issues of inclusion and gender equality. In February 2023, Coop, first in large-scale distribution, obtained gender equality certification in accordance with UNI PdR 125 and the certificate was reconfirmed in 2024 one year later and joined by other Gender Equality Certifications achieved by most member cooperatives.
