The spring long weekends are foreseen (if the weather is favourable) to be very positive for Liguria, in terms of tourism, starting with Easter, for which hotel occupancy is expected to be between 85 and 90%.

In this context, the easing of construction sites on Liguria's motorways (see the article above), may be a further incentive for tourists to move around the area. The forecast figures come from Aldo Werdin, president of Federalberghi Liguria, as well as head of Rapallo's Hotel Excelsior.

"The first three months of 2025, January, February and March," he testifies, "have been pretty tough, because in any case, it is low season in Liguria. That's if you exclude Genoa which, fortunately, has been doing well for a few years now, in winter and even in summer, the season in which it has become a competitor of the seaside resorts, whereas in the past hotels closed for holidays. And then, the first time of the year was battered by bad weather, with lots of snow in the mountains. People preferred skiing to coming to Liguria. But now, at last, we should be working well: requests for Easter are going up and, apart from the 22nd and 23rd of April, when the trend drops, from the 24th, which falls on a Thursday, we'll start again, in view of the 25 April long weekend. I hope, therefore, that we will be able to recover, partially, what we lost in the first three months'.

If then, Werdin continues, 'the weather gives us a hand, we'll make it to May; because, immediately after the 25 April long weekend, the 1 May long weekend starts, which is similar to the 25 May long weekend, as the 1st is also a Thursday marking the start of a long weekend. And if the weather is good, I'd say we'll have a good summer, like last year's".

As for the hotel occupancy rate, "with the confirmed bookings for Easter we are now at 65%," says Werdin, "but since we know that there is a percentage of customers who decide at the last moment, based on time, friendships and so on, I think that, for the Easter weekend, we will be at 85-90%. And for the following weekend, 25 April, we already have 2% more bookings than the current 65% at Easter: if, in the end, we manage to achieve the same occupancy rate for this second weekend as for the first, it will be very positive".

After all, Werdin continues, '2024 was already a good year for hoteliers, superior to 2023, which was the first year of real recovery after Covid, since in 2022, when there was the post-pandemic restart, many were still afraid to move freely'. Indeed, the Ligurian regional tourism observatory branded 2024 as a record year for tourism in the region. In those 12 months, 16.16 million presences were recorded (+0.48% over 2023).

During the Christmas holiday period, then, emphasises the regional councillor for tourism, Luca Lombardi, "between 20 December and 6 January, we recorded a 9.98% increase in admissions compared to the same period last year: more than 450,000 tourists, between 2024 and 2025, compared to almost 410,000 in 2023-2024. At a provincial level, we had an increase of 3.46% in Imperia, 7.71% in the Savona area, 14.14% in the Genoa area (+14.65% in Genoa alone) and 21.25% in the La Spezia area".
