A 17-year-old Romanian boy from Vieste, who was transported by helicopter from Vieste for injuries to his hands, neck and face, is in a critical prognosis at the hospital in Foggia. The minor's left hand was amputated, as he had also allegedly injured himself while handling a firecracker.

In Vercelli, a 43-year-old man is in life-threatening danger after suffering the amputation of his left hand, serious injuries to his right hand, chest and abdominal traumas, and burns to his face after a firework explosion on the balcony of his home.

In Brescia in Piazza della Vittoria, a 14-year-old Egyptian boy lost two fingers on his left hand when a firecracker exploded. He was transported to hospital in Verona in a red code and underwent surgery. The victim is still in a reserved prognosis.

In Palermo in Via Marciano, inside her home, a 24-year-old Italian woman of Sri Lankan origin was injured in the back by a stray bullet. Her life is not in danger.

In Caserta, a 9-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet in his left hand while standing on the balcony of his home. The child was transported to hospital and treated by medical staff with 6 stitches.

Two 12-year-old boys were seriously injured late in the morning today, 1 January, when they exploded some firecrackers. Rescued by the 118 emergency services, one of the two, who lost a hand, was admitted to Niguarda hospital in a red code; the other, who suffered penetrating injuries to his chest and legs, was admitted to San Raffaele hospital in a yellow code. Neither of them appears to be in life-threatening danger. The Carabinieri gave the news, explaining that the serious accident occurred in via Alfonso Gatto and that further investigations are in progress.
