One dead and 283 injured, including 54 hospitalised. This is the balance of the New Year's Eve celebrations provided by the Department of Public Security.
Compared to last year, the number of injured decreased to 309, but there was one death in Rome: a 63-year-old Moldavian man hit by a firecracker explosion.
During this year-end, 12 gunshot injuries were recorded. Among the 283 injured, 245 have prognoses of 40 days or less. On the other hand, 50 were seriously injured, with prognoses of more than 40 days. There were also 68 minors injured, last year there were 90.
The corpse of the man, a 63-year-old Moldavian citizen, was found by the Carabinieri in Acilia in Via Corte Maggiore, near a public park. The victim died of haemorrhaging due to the explosion of a firecracker in his hands.
Also in Rome, a 33-year-old Italian man is in a reserved prognosis at the 'Policlinico Umberto I' hospital: due to the explosion of a firecracker, he suffered the amputation of his right ear and some injuries to his face and eye. Still in the capital, an 11-year-old Italian boy was taken to the 'Grassi' hospital in Ostia because his ear was injured by a firecracker explosion, and was judged to be recoverable in 20 days.
