A few hours after it was announced that Naples will be the venue for the 38th edition of the America's Cup comes another piece of good all-Italian news: Pirelli will once again be Luna Rossa's partner, Prada and Pirelli are together again, it's a collaboration that comes at the third time after Auckland's 2021 and Barcelona's 2024. Where will we see the yellow writing again? Still on the arms, the arms that hold the foils?
In fact Marco Tronchetti Provera had also supported Luna Rossa in 2007 for the Valencia edition with the Tim- Alice brand. Pirelli will be not only Official Sponsor but also Technical Partner, providing a wealth of not only artificial 'intelligence'. The technical collaboration will therefore be centred on virtualisation, a methodology perfected by Pirelli in Formula 1, which makes it possible to reduce development time, the use of physical prototypes and also predict the behaviour of materials designed in collaboration. Then there is modelling, artificial intelligence systems, data management and innovative materials, a field in which Pirelli has specific know-how.
For some time now, the great battle of every team has been the development of simulation and performance prediction systems, as has been the case in Formula One, where drivers are able to simulate circuits and 'dry' set-ups after having tasted the track. In this, the New Zealanders have so far proved to be far ahead.
"We are delighted to be once again at Luna Rossa's side and will do so with the passion and dedication that have characterised this partnership from the very beginning. This project strengthens our brand and gives us great international visibility, allowing us to convey common values, such as the Italian spirit, technological challenge, competition, teamwork and the balance between power and control," said Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President of Pirelli.
"Having Pirelli at our side again gives us great pleasure, it is an important attestation of trust in the team and the work done so far," said Max Sirena, Skipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa. "Pirelli is a long-standing partner with whom we share the same sporting and ethical values and we are happy to have renewed the collaboration."
