A budget of 50 million euros for the ‘Cultura Missione Comune 2026’ initiative
Between 2021 and 2025, over €300 million will be invested in public cultural heritage, generating social benefits in excess of €1 billion
“Cultura Missione Comune” is back – the initiative by the Institute for Sport and Cultural Credit (ICSC) dedicated to funding projects relating to public cultural heritage. A budget of €50 million is earmarked for 2026, with the aim of mobilising a total of over €130 million in investment at a local level.
The mechanism remains the same as that tested in previous years: loans to local authorities with interest fully waived, thanks to resources from the Ministry of Culture’s Culture Fund, which is managed by the ICSC itself. In practical terms, municipalities, provinces, metropolitan cities and regions can access interest-free loans with a term of up to 10 years, extendable to 25 years for major projects.
The amounts eligible for funding vary according to the size of the local authority: up to €2 million for municipalities with a population of up to 5,000 inhabitants, up to €4 million for medium-sized municipalities, associations of municipalities and municipalities in association, and up to €6 million for county towns, metropolitan cities, counties and regions.
The measure covers a wide range of initiatives: the protection, conservation, restoration and promotion of cultural heritage, as well as digitisation projects. The aim is to support investments that can also have an economic and social impact on local areas.
“Funding culture across the board, from the centre to the outskirts, through local authorities,” explained the Minister for Culture, Alessandro Giuli, “means investing in the vitality of local areas and their ability to showcase the heritage they hold.” Thanks to this project, which forms part of the Olivetti Plan, Italia’s immense cultural heritage can strengthen its role as a driver of economic and social growth. The initiative will also support the restoration of our artistic treasures through the resources made available by the Institute for Sports and Cultural Credit, a strategic partner of the Ministry in this important initiative in support of local communities.”
