There’ll be a half-hour interval, Super Bowl-style, before the grand final
The break between halves in the match on 19 July could last well beyond the usual 15 minutes, with a half-time show featuring a host of distinguished guests
The 2026 World Cup final could even break the record for the longest half-time in history, with the half-time break extended due to the large-scale Super Bowl-style show that is planned.
As the date – Sunday 19th – draws nearer, details are emerging about the show that will split the cup final in two, with the half-time break exceeding the standard 15 minutes and lasting up to 25 minutes or even half an hour.
Last year, the half-time show during the Club World Cup final lasted 24 minutes, and given the impressive line-up announced for Sunday – Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Burna Boy, BTS, conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 choir – it seems unlikely that the half-hour break at MetLife Stadium will be any shorter.
Twice as long as the football rules stipulate (the half-time break must not exceed 15 minutes); however, FIFA may waive this rule for its own events, and it is now up to the managers and their staff to explore possible solutions and opportunities.
