For the Ponte Bianco and Verde bridge in Trieste, a construction site that follows the rhythm of the tides
It is managed by the Treviso-based Brussi Costruzioni of the Grigolin Group - Part of the works, worth 2 million, are carried out below sea level

Brussi Costruzioni - based in Nervesa della Battaglia, Treviso, specialising in the construction and maintenance of building works and road infrastructure, part of the Grigolin Group since the 1990s - rebuilt the historic bridges Ponte Bianco and Ponte Verde, in the heart of Trieste, a few steps from Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia.
Tidal effect
The project includes the complete reconstruction of the two bridges, the rebuilding of the load-bearing structures, and the renovation of the underground utilities, technological systems, pavements, parapets, and street lighting, with the aim of returning safer, more efficient infrastructure to the city, and bringing it up to current functional standards. A 2 million euro construction site, which must follow the rhythm of the tides.
The phase relating to new foundations is particularly delicate. The works are carried out below sea level and require planning closely linked to high and low tide cycles. During low tide windows the teams can operate directly on the structures, while during high tide periods the support of specialised underwater operators is necessary for the laying of formwork and the execution of the more complex works. The organisation of the construction site must therefore adapt daily to the course of the sea. The demolition and reconstruction work is now in full swing: at this time of year," says the company, "the most favourable conditions are at night and in the early morning, when low tides allow progress to be made in the construction of the new bridge abutments.
The Works
The complete reconstruction of Ponte Bianco and Ponte Verde will last an estimated one year and will renovate one of the main junctions of the city's road system, improving its safety, functionality and integration with the urban context.
The intervention has been entrusted by the Municipality of Trieste to a total value of approximately EUR 2 million and is part of the extraordinary maintenance programme of urban infrastructures promoted by the municipal administration.
