Former Ilva: Urso says we must prevent redundancies; a spirit of cooperation is needed
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - “We must at all costs prevent the announcement of mass redundancies”; we must “ensure that a decision which has triggered what many have described as a social and economic time bomb does not result in workers in related industries being the first victims”. This was stated by the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, on the sidelines of a meeting with the mayor and the local council of Gioia del Colle, as well as the trade unions and workers at AC Boilers.
"The Government," Urso pointed out, "has called a series of meetings at Palazzo Chigi, which will take place next Tuesday." As well as with the trade unions, the Government will need to engage "with local authorities, because now more than ever we must work together with local councils and regions. And then, of course, with businesses too, starting with those in the ancillary sectors and the Italian manufacturing supply chain, which relies on products from Taranto. If we manage to create – and I hope we will as early as Tuesday – a spirit of cooperation, we will be able to limit the social and economic impact and also outline a recovery plan, in the hope that the ongoing international tender will yield a positive outcome.”
