It's official: the Italian GP will remain at Monza until 2031: 'Great satisfaction, for a signature that rewards seriousness, professionalism and the extraordinary commitment of Aci,' was expressed by the president of Automobile Club Italia, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, for the agreement signed with Formula One Group, organiser of the World Championship, which will allow the Autodromo Nazionale Monza to host the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at least until 2031.
L’accordo
The signing of the contract, after lengthy negotiations, is the result of the effort made by Automobile Club d'Italia, in its role as the national federation, to keep a date on the calendar of the most prestigious rainbow series. The new agreement follows the important renovation works of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, where 335,000 fans witnessed the passage under the chequered flag of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc at the weekend.
Teamwork
."We have to thank," continued Sticchi Damiani, "for the precious and decisive contribution of the President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, who has made this contract extension possible, and above all the Government, the Lombardy Region and all the local institutions that have enabled the Italian Grand Prix to attract an ever-increasing number of fans over the last few editions. In particular, I would like to emphasise the essential contribution of the Government and the Lombardy Region, which have invested resources in this more than 100-year-old venue, financing the works carried out this year. Monza, as is well known, is the oldest racetrack in the world to host a round of the World Championship and is the longest-running in the championship calendar. But we are all aware that history is no longer enough. For this reason, after the renovation of the track and the subways, to ensure greater safety on the track and for the public, we have a new challenge in front of us for 2025: to improve the quality and quantity of the offer in terms of hospitality. With this goal in mind, we are already working to keep ourselves at the forefront of the standards required by modern Formula 1.
The Racetrack of Records
.Built in 1922, Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the second oldest circuit in the world still in operation after Indianapolis and, since the Formula 1 World Championship was established in 1950, it has always been on the calendar with the exception of 1980. No other circuit can boast such a long stay. Autodromo Nazionale Monza, in order to keep up with the times, underwent major modernisation works in this 2024. These involved the resurfacing of the entire track, the widening of three subways and the creation of a completely new one with the aim of improving the road system, separating vehicular and pedestrian mobility. This was a first tranche of works: for 2025 Autodromo Nazionale Monza will provide for the improvement of services and the enlargement of the Paddock Club with the consequent new positioning of the Media Centre.
