"I have decided to run for the presidency of the Republic": with these words theformer French prime minister Gabriel Attal, 37, officially announced his participation in next year's run for the Elysée.
At an event in front of a hundred people in the Aveyron department in south-west France, Attal said: 'I speak to you from the heart especially today: I love France, I love France passionately. We certainly have the most beautiful country in the world'. The head of Renaissance, the Macronian party, Attal has been campaigning for some time, aiming to win the role of 'anti-extreme' in an election that sees the far-right Rassemblement National party, of Marine Le Pen, dominating the polls, and La France Insoumise, of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, on the rise. Attal's opponent in the centre area is Edouard Philippe, whose 'Horizons' party is positioned in the centre-right, again with a Macronian majority.
