France: annual inflation at 3.1 per cent in September, down 0.3 per cent month-on-month

Growth accelerates from +2.4 per cent in August. The energy sector surges by +21.3 per cent

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Inflation is accelerating in France. According to INSEE, the consumer price index rose by 3.1 per cent year-on-year in September, following a 2.4 per cent increase in August. On a month-on-month basis, the change was -0.3 per cent, following +0.7 per cent in August.

The year-on-year rise in prices was driven by the acceleration in energy prices (+21.3 per cent, up from 16.7 per cent in August). Core inflation also rose, standing at 1.5% in September 2026, up from 1.1% in August.
