France: Third-quarter GDP falls by 0.1 per cent both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - France’s gross domestic product fell by 0.1 per cent in the third quarter, both on a quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year basis, according to preliminary estimates from the national statistics institute INSEE. This result is worse than market expectations, which had predicted an increase, albeit a minimal one. The production of goods and services fell by 0.1 per cent in the period from July to September, INSEE states, whilst household consumption rose by 0.4 per cent; however, investment suffered a further significant decline (-0.6 per cent) and foreign trade also made a negative contribution to GDP, amounting to 0.6 percentage points.
