Francesco Billari confirmed as rector of Bocconi University

At today's meeting, the Board of Directors, at the proposal of President Andrea Sironi, unanimously confirmed Francesco Billari as Rector of Università Bocconi. The second mandate, following last February's amendment to the statute, will last three years until 31 October 2027. In the process of continuously strengthening Bocconi as a leading European university in the social sciences, over the next three years Billari and his rector's team will be engaged, in particular, in:
- coordinating the University's Strategic Plan for the five-year period 2026/30, embedding it in a long-term vision of the university and research sector with a focus on global demographic and socio-economic trends;
- creating a department in the area of cognitive and behavioural sciences, which will allow the University's presence in frontier social sciences to be completed with new alliances and training programmes. To support the digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence in teaching and research by further developing the computational science and data-driven approach, also through collaborations and links with other universities and companies;
- to enhance third mission initiatives and social impact in Italy, Europe and the world, also by further encouraging, enhancing and recognising student participation in the various initiatives. The cultural presence in Milan, with openness to the city, will have to be further consolidated, also in the context of the main events that mark the life of the local community;
- launch a fundraising campaign with a 2030 horizon, based on the pillars of inclusion and support for students, research, Faculty and Campus, involving individual, corporate and foundation donors worldwide, also leveraging the Alumni community, also through major initiatives that encourage a return to Campus
- continue to attract quality students from Italy, Europe and the World, further strengthening inclusion policies and expanding opportunities for residence near the Campus.

"During his first mandate, Rector Billari has accelerated Bocconi's role as a social lift and as an institution that concretely promotes inclusion and cultural and gender diversity," said President Sironi. "Bocconi's future will continue to be characterised by these guidelines as well as by international openness and the development of impactful research and a quality teaching experience aimed at training 'future-proof' students".
"With all the components of the university," emphasises Rector Billari, "we will work to prepare the new strategic plan that will lead Bocconi to consolidate its ambition of global impact with a strong local presence. Our research will have to make a difference on the economy and society, on policies and institutions, changing people's lives and contributing to changing the world".
