Libero Grassi, Piantedosi: ‘His courage is an inspiration to never let our guard down’
The minister highlighted the measures taken by the government to combat the mafia and to recover confiscated assets
Thirty-five years on from the attack in Via Alfieri in Palermo, the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, pays tribute to Libero Grassi and his refusal to bow to organised crime. An example which, as the Minister of the Interior emphasises, remains a guiding light in the fight against the mafia to this day.
“Our debt of gratitude to Libero Grassi remains as strong as ever,” said Piantedosi. The minister pointed out that the businessman’s refusal to bow to Mafia tactics “still serves today as an example to all those who, day in, day out, defend the values of lawfulness and justice”.
For Piantedosi, Grassi’s courage is ‘an incentive never to let our guard down’ and to strengthen the state’s efforts to combat organised crime.
The minister then referred to the measures adopted by the government to combat the mafia and to recover confiscated assets. The aim, he explained, is to maximise their social reuse, transforming what were once ‘symbols of criminal power into bastions of the rule of law, development and social cohesion’.
