Svizzera da percorrere in treno lungo le sue più belle tratte panoramiche
From Lucerne to Interlaken with the Luzern Express
The route from Lucerne to Interlaken (98 km) can be covered in one hour and 50 minutes. The Luzern-Interlaken Express connects two famous destinations and along the way time flies by faster than you would like, admiring mountains, turquoise lakes and numerous waterfalls. It skirts the lakes of Alpnach, Sarn and Lungern, climbs over the Brünig Pass and then descends to Meiringen. Passing Lake Brienz, it then leads to Interlaken. The rock faces of the nearby mountains rise protectively above the lake shore and create a magical backdrop. Among the points of interest, Meiringen is a holiday resort in the Bernese Oberland. Sherlock Holmes lost his life here - only to be resurrected a few years later and the town has a museum and monument dedicated to the writer Conan Doyle and the character from his novels. Many peculiarities of the place have to do with the melt waters of the glaciers of the nearby mountains. This applies, for example, to the Aare Gorge, which was created by the force of water over several million years. A footbridge allows visitors to cross the gorge over the tumultuous waters between sheer cliffs. The Reichenbach Falls can be reached aboard a nostalgic funicular railway, which allows you to admire the smaller waterfalls already on the way. Meiringen is also the home of meringues, one of the world's best-known desserts, which originated here in the 17th century thanks to the flair of the Italian confectioner Casparini. Interlaken, on the other hand, is made special by its location between two lakes, which can be explored by boat, stopping at the Giessbach waterfalls, the St Beatus caves, Iseltwald, Brienz or Thun. You can also book a guided kayak tour or a jetboat ride, or sit in the hot tug, a floating pool of warm water. For your stay, you can choose between the old Hotel Anker reopened in 2016 with an exclusive tower suite, or the Hof Hinter Musegg located behind Lucerne's ancient city walls.
