The Inps announces news on parental leave allowance. The allowance for the month of parental leave has been increased from the current 60 per cent to 80 per cent of salary. In addition, the parental leave allowance for a further month will also be increased to 80 per cent, thus improving the economic support for parents in the first years of the child's life. The main changes include: first month: paid at 80 per cent (already provided for in the Budget Law 2023), second month: raised to 80 per cent (previously 60 per cent), third month: raised to 80 per cent (previously 30 per cent). In this way, each parental couple will have three months paid at 80 per cent, to be used individually or shared, even alternately or simultaneously. Subsequent months of leave remain compensated at 30 per cent, while the last month may be unpaid, except for situations of particularly low income. The provisions apply to employed parents who end their leave after 31 December 2024 and who take leave from 1 January 2025. The measure is extended to cases of adoption or fostering. The parent must be an employee; maternity or paternity leave must end after 31 December 2024; parental leave must be taken from 1 January 2025. Periods of leave must be taken by the sixth year of life, adoption or fostering of the child and no later than the age of majority.
