From light bulb shop to industrial supplies

From a small light bulb shop, founded in 1983 in Tramutola, a small town in the province of Potenza, in the Val d'Agri, the valley of oil, to a point of reference for companies in the oil, petrochemical, chemical and industrial sectors. The story of Lux Impianti srl, founded in 2003, which today spreads over 12,000 square metres in the Tramutola industrial area, including factories and car parks, with over 100 employees, a turnover of 16 million euro and offices in Viggiano, Potenza, Salerno, Codogno and Porto Torres, is a Lucanian story that speaks of industrial plant engineering, but above all of transformation. It speaks of family roots, generational change, but also of a vision that led the company to draw up a sustainability report, to join Eni's Open-Es and establish itself in the design, construction, installation and maintenance of electro-instrumental systems, complex automation systems and fire&gas.

It is alongside his father Michele (77 years old, still working in the company), among electrical equipment and household appliances, that Rocco Calandriello, sole director of Lux Impianti, developed a passion for electricity, electronics and information technology from an early age. His thirst for knowledge and his resourcefulness pushed him towards the world of Eni. But he entered it on tiptoe, after a decade of apprenticeships and subcontracting, with a company that grew in numbers, skills and ability to read the markets and stay close to customers.

Working in Val d'Agri has taught him never to stop at the single customer. The secret of success lies in networking, teaming up with other companies, acquiring know-how from the best and reinvesting in the business. A foresight that has seen him involved in Eni's Open -Es project. The Sustainability Report 2024 is a voluntary choice that gives the measure of the results achieved and of a company that presents itself as a technical partner, no longer as a mere executor. "It is not enough," says Calandriello, "to do a plant well: it is important to demonstrate reliability, operational continuity, safety culture and transparency on impacts and processes along the supply chain".

And this is where sustainability comes into the picture as an economic lever and with concrete choices. Lux Impianti builds a thread linking energy, biodiversity and community. On the one hand, self-production and attention to energy consumption; on the other, projects that bring together enterprise and territory, such as the path with 3Bee created with the Istituto Omnicomprensivo di Marsicovetere to train 'ambassadors of change', including the installation of pollinator shelters and the adoption of an Arboretum in Basilicata, with native nectariferous species and a planting and monitoring programme.

The next goal is to create a Cer, a renewable energy community to create clean energy and give it to employees. "For them," says the entrepreneur, "I am the friend ready to take their suggestions and even delegate. It is the hunger, the need and the desire to grow that drive the ingenuity of the South'. And Calandriello looks to the North, to the many companies that can be acquired and incorporated perhaps also because they have no possibility of generational turnover.
