From the (united) centre-left to the radicals: the squares planned for Iran
After the tensions in Parliament, the broad camp will present itself together in Rome, in Piazza del Campidoglio
Although the motion on Iran not voted for by the Five Star party has created some friction in Parliament, the centre-left will stand united in the square in support of the Iranian people.
Centre Left in Capitol Square
On Friday afternoon, a political organisation is scheduled to take place in Piazza del Campidoglio, with a solidarity presidium for the Iranian population promoted by Amnesty International Italia and the Women Life Freedom for Peace and Justice movement. The initiative aims to draw attention to the violent repression of protests in Iran, which have been severely affected by mass arrests and the use of lethal force by the authorities.
And the entire centre-left and beyond will be there. TheDemocratic Party, 5 Star Movement, Italia Viva, Action, +Europa and other acronyms of the so-called 'wide field' area, including the Cgil. trade union, have joined the event
'A regime that has never been so weak and in the balance,' said Dem MP Laura Boldrini, 'it is now that our support, political and peaceful, for the Iranian people is crucial'.
Saturday's Radical Party march
On Saturday 17 January, in Rome, there will be the 'third march for a free, secular and democratic Iran' organised by the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty. The appointment is at 10 a.m. in Piazzale Ugo La Malfa, for a march that will cross symbolic areas of the capital to reaffirm civil rights, secularism and self-determination in Iran.
