The Giulia Cecchettin Foundation launches a research project involving 80 teachers

Tackling gender-based violence through education, by training teachers and equipping them with the tools to recognise and challenge stereotypes and inequalities from early childhood onwards. This is the aim of the national project ‘Educating for gender equality, from early childhood’, promoted by the University of Florence and the Giulia Cecchettin Ets Foundation, which the Region of Tuscany has joined with funding of 44,000 euros.

The funds will finance a research project aimed at assessing teaching staff’s gender awareness, their training needs and the skills acquired during the course. At least 200 questionnaires are planned, to be administered at the start and end of the programme, alongside focus groups and interviews involving approximately 80 teachers. Part of the research will also take place in the classroom: some teachers, on a voluntary basis, will carry out teaching activities designed to bring to light the internalised gender stereotypes held by girls and boys and to observe any changes in their perceptions and mental imagery.

Of the 44,000 euros allocated by the Region, around 40,000 will be used for two research grants and around 4,000 for disseminating the results through initiatives and publications.
