Sheinbaum: 'Mexican auto parts exempt from US duties'
.Donald Trump's government has exempted Mexican car parts from paying duties due to the existing trade treaty between the two countries and Canada, Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum announced, as reported by the Latin American country's main media. "Yesterday there was very good news for Mexico, a publication came out from the United States, from the Cbp (the US Customs and Border Protection agency) certifying that auto parts produced in Mexico have zero duties, a news that because of too much news was not appreciated," Sheinbaum said today in her daily press conference.
For his part, Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard pointed out that the document published yesterday by the US government provides specific instructions to customs authorities emphasising that auto parts produced in Mexico will not pay duties. "They will be considered as part if they were also from the US," Ebrard commented, acknowledging that negotiations with the US Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, were a bit tense at first, but currently they have managed to find points of interest for both sides and how to work to advance and strengthen the economy of both Mexico and the US with weekly meetings or, at most, every 15 days.
