Strike of grassroots unions, marches throughout Italy

Processions throughout Italy on the occasion of the general strike called by thebasic unions Cub; Sgb; Adl Varese; Si Cobas; Usi; Usi Cit and the Palestinian organisations in Italia Api and Gpi-Giovani Palestinesi Italiani.

The main initiatives will be held in Rome, Naples, Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Turin, Savona, Milan, Bergamo; Catania and Palermo.

In Lombardy's capital, the procession will leave from Piazza della Scala at 9.30 a.m. to reach the State University and the Prefecture, where a delegation of mobilisation organisers will ask for a meeting with the prefect.

Among the demands of the strike were a stop to the 'crowding generated by wars', the precariousness, the slavery and the 'attempt to deny the right to strike and dissent and against increased military spending'.

The grassroots unions also demand 'the recovery of wages and pensions and fair taxation'.

On the international front, the protest organisers say 'no to the policies of war' and oppose 'the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian and Lebanese people'.

This is why they call for the "interruption of all commercial and political relations with Israel" and call Israel's "unacceptable action in international waters" "piratical", emphasising the "shameful treatment meted out to the volunteers of the Flotilla, while the government stutters and promises a reaction, which no one believes, after it turned away while they were killing 100,000 people".
