Fuel, abnormal price increases from two major oil companies
Mr. Prices, i.e. the Price Supervisor at MIM, convened an emergency meeting of the steering committee of the Early Warning Commission in the afternoon on the instructions of Minister Adolfo Urso
by Lorenzo Pace
Key points
The results of the first checks on speculators are in: two major oil companies raised fuel prices more than necessary after the escalation of tension in the Middle East and, due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the jump in the cost of crude oil.
The Early Warning Commission at mimit
This is what emerged during the steering committee of the Rapid Alert Commission that met urgently this afternoon. It was chaired by Adolfo Urso, Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, who took stock of the price trends of oil products together with the Price Supervisor (the so-called Mister Price). Not only: the meeting was also attended (some remotely) by representatives of the Ministries of the Economy and the Environment, as well as the Department of Information for Security (Did) of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (Arera), the Competition and Market Authority (Agcm) and the Customs and Monopolies Agency (Adm).
Mister Price Reports
The role of Mister Price is central at the moment. It is up to the task force to monitor prices at the pump throughout Italy and report any anomalies, in this case higher prices than necessary. And this is what has been done in two cases. It was noted, in fact, 'that in recent days - in particular with reference to two of the main oil companies - the average prices charged at the pump have increased more than the prices recommended by the reference companies'.
A dynamic that will be the subject of targeted checks between the offices of the MIM and the MEF. In this direction, Mister prezzi will transmit to the Fiamme Gialle, in the coming hours, a new list of anomalous cases of pump prices for further checks.
Meetings to continue monitoring
The control cabin will meet again on Wednesday, while a new plenary meeting of the Early Warning Commission is scheduled for Friday, 13 March at the MIMM, according to the cadence already announced by Minister Urso, which provides for a weekly meeting of the body until the end of the conflict.
