The entire city is buzzing with excitement between the furniture showrooms getting a makeover in preparation for the most important appointment of the year, the fittings in progress from the Statale to Zona Tortona, the traffic often blocked by the many deliveries. The Salone del Mobile 2025 is on the starting blocks, and in addition to being a strongly connotative event for Milan - so much so that it is a source of inspiration for similar kermesses, such as fashion weeks - it also confirms itself as an economically important appointment: estimates by the Centro Studi di Confcommercio Milano, Monza e Brianza e Lodi (Confcommercio Milano, Monza e Brianza e Lodi Study Centre), based on data from the Bank of Italy, the Furniture Fair, Aefi, and EuroFair Statistics, calculate that the induced revenue from the 2025 edition of the Fair will be 278 million euros, slightly up (+1.1%) on last year. An increase in visitors is also expected (+1.1%): there will be 320,870, 64.1% of whom will be Italian and 35.9% foreign.
Italian spending falls under the weight of uncertainty
Business, however, will run on a double track: foreign visitors - who will contribute 202.1 million, a share of around two thirds (73%), to the expenditure - will register an increase of 5.8%; Italians, on the other hand, will spend only 75.9 million, down 9 % on last year.
The main items will remain accommodation (41.4%), catering (30.4%) and shopping (23.6%) . "In spite of the international tensions, the estimated induced activity of the event is still growing slightly, thanks above all to the spending power of foreign visitors," explains Marco Barbieri, secretary general of Confcommercio Milano, Lodi, Monza and Brianza; "on the other hand, Italian tourist spending, penalised by the phase of uncertainty in our economy, is falling.
Housing first item of expenditure: 9 April almost all booked up
Peak occupancy in the city of Milan will be on Wednesday 9 April both in hotels - according to data as at 30 March, processed and developed by the 'Iodah - Intelligence on Destination and Hospitality' platform, 83.9% will be reached - and in non-hotel accommodation where occupancy, again on 9 April, will be 75% (data as at 31 March; PriceLabs and Rescasa . On the subject of costs, Iodah estimated the best (public) rates available online for two people at EUR 367 to 603 for hotels and EUR 470 to 546 for non-hotel accommodation.
